Sexiest music videos: Triply classy

Aaliyah in 'We need a resolution'
Today’s episode is a tribute to Aaliyah. I have chosen three of her music videos that are feminine, sensual and classy, but they differ in kind of sexuality they emanate. We’ll see Aaliyah in three sexy creations: tomboyish, angelic and sinister.
Dark and twisted

There is something about her that makes me feel uncomfortable… I guess it’s her look – hardly human-like. I found a favourable review of her new album ‘Hurricane’ on Pitchfork and I decided to watch the music video of the first single from the album. Yes, Grace Jones returns after 20 years.
Pitchfork notices that ”Hurricane’ sometimes sounds like a tribute or lost sequel to Massive Attack’s ‘Mezzanine”. I’ve listened to just one track from Jones’ album so far, but if the other tracks are alike, ‘Mezzanine’ is a cheerful sunny album compared to ‘Hurricane’…
If you’re brave enough, here’s the video of Grace’s ‘Corporate Cannibal’…

This song is so amazing – its structure, its lyrics, its mood… I can’t switch to anything else right now.
Peeking through music holes
November 25, 2008
Who is Camille? Basically, she’s a French singer. Genuine, passionate, funny and talented. At the beginning of this year she released her third album entitled ‘Music hole’ which is made of body sounds – amazing! I also strongly recommend her previous album ‘Le fil’ that is focused on vocals as well. Camille sound fresh and that’s most important to me.
Let Camille speak for herself. In this post you’ll find interview (in two parts) with her talking about the album, so it’s kinda self-interview mixed with ‘making of’. Absolutely brilliant!
In the end you’ll find Camille’s another two music videos to give you a better perspective. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »
Money note
November 24, 2008
This is my favourite track from Camille’s album ‘Music Hole’ that makes it to my top 3 this year. She sounds so fresh! But there’ll be more about Camille herself tomorrow – today I want to focus on this particular song.
First of all – what the ‘money note’ is? Here comes the Wikipedia with the answer: Read the rest of this entry »

Old school/New school
November 17, 2008
Aaliyah was my first true musical love. Few days ago I felt like listening to ‘One in a million’ album – the r’n'b masterpiece. There is one song that I want to show you today.
It is called ‘Choosey lover (old school/new school)’ and, as you might have guessed, one part of the song has an old school vibe and the other part – a new school one.
Listen to the song and notice how a melody and vocals are arranged differently in both parts. Especially you Magda as you may finally get the idea of what the old school is.
Indie glam
November 16, 2008
I don’t know where Tom takes such bands from, but what I do know is that he should have regular features on this blog as he finds amazing tunes (if you read this post, it’s an official offer). Just like this one – ‘C.Y.O.A’ by HEARTSREVOLUTION.
The music video for this song is absolutely stunning and it represents something what I call ‘indie glam’ just perfectly. All these noises in the song reminds me of Crystal Castles, but I prefer this vocal to Alice’s one. And the melody in the ‘chorus’ is so great!
They look French, don’t they? MySpace says they’re from NY, but they must have some French roots to me.
