Dull flame of desire

Björk

Björk in 'Dull Flame of Desire' music video

To be honest, I wasn’t aware that Björk released a fifth single from Volta until last week. In my opinion, ‘Dull Flame of Desire’ featuring Antony Hegarty is one the most beautiful love songs ever made: intimate lyrics, breath-taking performances from both singers and raw, pulsing rhythm. To see a bigger picture you should listen to the 7:30 album version, but today I want to tell you about the music video and a great remix made for the song.

Welcome, spring!

March 27, 2009

vulaYay, it’s been a long time since my last post, I guess I really needed to have a week off. But, well, here I return with lots of amazing tunes and music videos so I hope you don’t mind this little break!

There’s something about a spring season that makes you feel more alive, isn’t it? At least it works in my case. And Vula’s as well. This lovely lady that I presented you some time ago has just released a fresh and absolutely charming video for her ‘If you want it’ single. Doesn’t it make you smile?  I’m sure you can recognize cameos from the guys from Basement Jaxx – no surprise they are in the video as they collaborated with Vula on a few tracks, to mention successful ‘Hush boy’ and ‘Oh my gosh’ only.

Vula is going to release her debut album this summer and I’m telling you – it’s gonna make the summer so much hotter!

Common and Martina Topley-Bird

Common and Martina Topley-Bird

It’s been a while since I was hooked by a song from Grey’s Anatomy (like if all the songs I’ve found there – including a discovery of my beloved Psapp - wasn’t enough!), but this situation changed with the very first minutes of the latest episode.

‘Everywhere’ by Common and Martina Topley-Bird is a nice combination of fast-paced, smooth electronic with decent rap and amazing vocals. I particularly like the ‘o-o-o-o (…)’ part in the intro and outro of the song.

I can feel it’s gonna be my song of the weekend.

Weekend vibe #03

March 20, 2009

weekend03Pop a sparkling soda, put a straw in the bottle (is it that warm in your part of the world as well?), sit back and watch music videos of two classic club hits from late ’90s that I have chosen for today.

Mika Urbaniak

Mika Urbaniak

I’ve been waiting for this album for years! A debut record from Mika Urbaniak is scheduled for a release in April.

It seems that the album, Closer, is worth waiting for. It is produced by a drummer Troy Miller who was a close collaborator of Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse. Other musicians taking part in recording sessions in London include The Roots’ and Joss Stone’s co-workers. Doesn’t it sound good enough yet? Alright, what about guest appearances from her world-famous parents – Michał Urbaniak and Urszula Dudziak?

You can listen to a promo single from the upcoming album right here:

If you have never heard of Mika before you should really have a look at more videos posted below in this: Read the rest of this entry »

Emiliana Torrini

Emiliana Torrini

Whenever I hear Emiliana Torrini, Björk comes to my mind just instantly. Maybe it’s the accent.
Not so long ago, I discovered Torrini’s joyful song ‘Jungle Drum’ and my legs couldn’t have enough of moving, so I had to play it a loop. And the way that Emiliana makes the drum sound is so charming!

CiaraIt’s Friday evening so let’s get up and dance!… Or at least watch Ciara dancing as she’s a hella talented dancer. I can remember when I first saw her ‘Goodies’ music video on TV when I was jumping from channel to channel the other night a few years ago. I thought “If anyone is going to fill the emptiness after Aaliyah’s death, it’s gonna be her.” Of course, I would never compare these two artists, but they are both genuinely gifted.
