ellipse

I had no idea this feeling will be so intense… After two years of Imogen’s vBlogs and tweets I have finally listened to ‘First Train Home’ – the first single from upcoming album Ellipse - and I literally cried! I feel so happy, it’s a pure bliss! It’s not only because of the beauty of the song – I feel like if I’ve been involved in the whole process of making the album, it’s already a piece of me.
Thank you Imogen, you are the music I live for…

Listen to the single here!

Sugababes

Sugababes

It’s so damn hard to find decent pop songs these days, isn’t it? Yesterday, when I heard Sugababes‘ new single ‘Get sexy’ I couldn’t stop thinking it’s a joke. It’s not that I expect great lyrics from the Babes, but the ones in this single are BAD and I mean it.

When I listened to the song today I had an idea that maybe it’s so overwhelmingly cliché-ridden in purpose. I hope it is.

Musically it fits into latest trends (‘Boom boom pow’ comes to mind instantly, doesn’t it?), so I guess Sugababes will come back to tops of charts with ‘Get sexy’ but the price is high. I miss good old Sugababes providing rather innovative pop tunes that you’d like with no hesitation since the first time you heard it.

I’m afraid that this song may stay in my head somehow. It’s crap, but the chorus is quite catchy whether we like it or not. I wonder what the new album will be like…

Or maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s a blinkin’ great song (obviously, you need to raise above the lyrics, no doubt here)?! I’m confused.

Heineken

Now, that I got some sleep, I can tell you about this year’s Open’er Fesitival (that’s quite a long post, I’m warning you!) Read the rest of this entry »

White Lies + Crystal Castles

White Lies + Crystal Castles

I don’t like White Lies. I’m not a fan of Crystal Castles. But I blinkin’ love the music video for the song below, and the song – ‘Death’ – itself! Can you imagine?
The remixed video has an incredible sense of drama and mystery, and together with the Crystal Castles’ remix of White Lies’ song it creates a perfect audiovisual combination.
The original music video was directed by Andreas Nilsson and I guess he is responsible for the remixed version as well.

You can download the remix here.

Oh, and I’ve seen both bands at the Open’er Festival. But I’m gonna write a separate post about the festival.

Late of the Pier

Late of the Pier

Yesterday, I was on the first day of the Heineken Open’er Festival (it’s my jubilee fifth one!). I saw Peter, Bjorn and John, Arctic Monkeys, Late of the Pier and Basement Jaxx. To be honest, Jaxxes were the only concert I was really looking for yesterday, but I was totally attracted to this amazing band I’m gonna show you today – Late of the Pier.

Four young guys with loads of charisma and electrifying stage presence. I’m not sure how to describe their music. Disco-punk with some glam rock and freaky electro elements? Sounds quite adequate. I was dancing and jumping like crazy at their gig, they were awesome! We all have to give their album Fantasy Black Channel a listen (okay, I’m kinda a year+ behind, but I’ve never heard of them before). They are my huge discovery at this year’s Open’er. You must have a look at their stunning music video directed by Saam Farahmand:

Coming back to the Jaxxes – their concert wasn’t as good as the one I’ve been before, but it was fabulous anyway! And Vula, awww, she’s a one lovely lady! A talented one! Oh, and I’ve heard the second single from Scars but it wasn’t too good unfortunately… But never mind that, I will always love Basement Jaxx, they what the fun is!

You guys stay tuned and I’m getting ready for today’s gigs: Gossip, Duffy, Crystal Castles and the others…
