orally fixated

Leave everything and go to Róisín’s MySpace to hear her new single ‘Orally Fixated’! I wish I knew what it sounds like, but there seems to be a problem with my MySpace player… Hopefully, I’d get to listen to the song some other way. So far I can only stare at this great cover – I count on you to let me know what’s the song like!

***UPDATE***

I’ve just listened to the song! It’s interesting, but for me it lacks this special Róisín vibe, if you know what I mean… I like ‘Demon Lover’ and ‘Royal-T’ much more!
*** *** ***

It’s a surprise as the first single was rumoured to be ‘Demon Lover’ that we could hear on Victor & Rolf fashion show. ‘Orally Fixated’ will be released on 16th November in UK (one day later in USA). British broadsheet newspaper The Guardian will offer a 48-hours free download of the single, so write it down in your diary!

What the album is gonna be like? Listen to an interview with Róisín (it’s from July, so some things might have changed by now):

Whatcha say?

October 28, 2009

coverSo guys, whatcha say about this barbarian sampling of Imogen’s marterpiece ‘Hide and Seek’ in a poor song by Jason Derulo? It’s so average I wouldn’t pay any attention to it if there was no Imogen in it… However, American consumers are not too fussy and the song is doing really good – it’s on #2 on Billboard list.

Immi herself doesn’t bother that much as she said that the song lives its own life and she just lets it be. Fair enough. One of Imogen’s recent tweets: “@jasonderulo we really should meet/chat/say hello one of these days! Our tune is getting places! x

Timbo

There are artists that over the years lose distinction between shaping their original sound and being repetitive, like Röyksopp, and there are artists that copy their own ideas shamelessly all over again and get away with that, like Timbaland.

Timbo is gonna release Shock Value 2 in a month and the lead single was just released. ‘Morning After Dark’ features Timaland himself and some oh-so-boring new artist SoShy from Timbaland’s label.

Timbo says the song is

very interesting. The song, I can’t describe it, it’s so different. It’s not different for me, but I can tell you this — it fits everything going on with the vampire theme.

I say it sounds not different at all; it sounds exactly like everything else he has done over last few years. Come on, it’s ish! Really ishy ish I shall say.

The worst thing is that once the album comes out, Timbo is going to be everywhere again. People, wake up! He’s so four years ago! Just to make things clear: I really appreciate his old work with Aaliyah, Missy Elliott and more recently – Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. I just can’t stand how he’s stuck on repeat and people are still so excited about him. And maybe I’m wrong but I’ve got a feeling the whole album is gonna be just as I’ve-heard-it-all-before as this single.

Blah.

Basement Jaxx are coming!

jaxxes

Feelings GoneI can’t hep it. Sam Sparro is the one. Guys from Basement Jaxx know it as well and they chose a song ‘Feelings Gone’ featuring Sam for the second single from their upcoming album Scars (to be released on 21st of September). Now that’s what I call perfection: impeccable production, uplifting melody, beat that makes you wanna jump higher and higher, and Sparro’s vocals. Listen to the song below and visit Basement Jaxx myspace for remixes.

Basement Jaxx  – ‘Feelings Gone’ (feat. Sam Sparro)

You can listen to four songs from upcoming album on Basement Jaxx official website, including ‘Saga’ with unique Santigold that you can listen here as well. I can feel this album will be huge.

Basement Jaxx – ‘Saga’ (feat. Santigold)

This album will be huge. Yet another track to make you share my feelings:

Mika

Mika

Mika isn’t exactly an artist whose career I follow, but thanks to Imogen Heap I found out that he’s releasing his new album soon (she wrote a song for that album) and I checked out the new single ‘We Are Golden’. The original version isn’t my thing, but I really like the remix made by Calvin Harris that you can listen to/watch below:

MadonnaCelebrationSingle

Don’t you think that the remix of Madonna’s ‘Celebration’ made by Benny Benassi is far better than the original version? The original version is a reminiscent of her dance roots I guess, but ‘m glad that in the music video it’s gonna be the BB remix.  Have a listen and make up your mind. Then, you can let me know what’s your opinion and watch three new trailers of Madonna’s upcoming greatest hits compilation.

Shakira goes disco?

Shakira's cheap new image

Shakira's cheap new image

Well,  Shakira annoys me most of the time, but it didn’t stop me from checking out her single ‘She wolf’ from upcoming new album. Where the surprising part comes is the sound of the song – ’70s disco and funk inspired style. Can you imagine? No? Well, neither could I.

Lyrics are as silly as they can be, but in my opinion the song is a decent pop hit. Actually, it’s really good! I guess it’s the strong candidate for the mid-summer anthem. Shakira’s voice is far more smooth than usually, that’s why I’m not annoyed. But her new look? Vulgar in a cheap way – I wonder how will her true fans comment on it…

You can listen to the song below and see the preview of the music video for ‘She wolf’. If you want to listen to the Spanish version of the song – ‘Loba’ is the title in this case – just click here. I would say it sounds better, but on the other hand her voice is more annoying, so I’d rather stick to the English one.

Temporary Pleasure

Simian Mobile Disco

Simian Mobile Disco

Guys from Simian Mobile Disco are about to return with their second album Temporary Pleasure (to be released on 17th August). Amongst the others, there are guest appearances from Beth Ditto (Gossip), Jamie Lidell, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Chris Keating (Yeasayer) and Telepathe. This list makes me pretty much curious about the album.

Music video for the first single ‘Audacity of Huge’ featuring Chris Keating is realised within a really nice visual concept, have a look below (the only thing that makes me uncomfortable are honey drops – my imagination works and I already feel sticky, ugh!):

ellipse

I had no idea this feeling will be so intense… After two years of Imogen’s vBlogs and tweets I have finally listened to ‘First Train Home’ – the first single from upcoming album Ellipse - and I literally cried! I feel so happy, it’s a pure bliss! It’s not only because of the beauty of the song – I feel like if I’ve been involved in the whole process of making the album, it’s already a piece of me.
Thank you Imogen, you are the music I live for…

Sugababes

Sugababes

It’s so damn hard to find decent pop songs these days, isn’t it? Yesterday, when I heard Sugababes‘ new single ‘Get sexy’ I couldn’t stop thinking it’s a joke. It’s not that I expect great lyrics from the Babes, but the ones in this single are BAD and I mean it.

When I listened to the song today I had an idea that maybe it’s so overwhelmingly cliché-ridden in purpose. I hope it is.

Musically it fits into latest trends (‘Boom boom pow’ comes to mind instantly, doesn’t it?), so I guess Sugababes will come back to tops of charts with ‘Get sexy’ but the price is high. I miss good old Sugababes providing rather innovative pop tunes that you’d like with no hesitation since the first time you heard it.

I’m afraid that this song may stay in my head somehow. It’s crap, but the chorus is quite catchy whether we like it or not. I wonder what the new album will be like…

Or maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s a blinkin’ great song (obviously, you need to raise above the lyrics, no doubt here)?! I’m confused.
