My House (Tensnake remix)

Such a brilliant remix! It’s a pity ‘My House’ got so little remixes (compared to ‘Blind’ or ‘You Belong’), but I guess it’s because of a record label change. Or Blue Songs being a disappointment in general…

Anyway, Tensnake‘s remix of Hercules and Love Affair changes mood of the song completely and as you may know if ou read this blog ever now and then – such remixes tend to be my favourites!

Talking about Tensnake, have you ever heard his song ‘Coma Cat’? Really good tune!

Les Djinns

Now that’s an airy and exotic remix. Trentemøller knows how to create open spaces in music.

What You Need

Have a listen to another track from Kim Ann Foxman (produced by Andy Butler), ‘What You Need’, and a nice remix of’Creature’ – both exceptionally good. Apparently Hercules turned from a hero to a god.

Complications, Alterations

Some time ago my laptop crushed. For good. It makes running this blog (and a million other things) a little more complicated, so I’m afraid I have to change the format of the posts slightly. No pictures, less text, but on the upside – more music! I hope that will work.

Putting words into action, here is a threesome of nice remixes:

Kele – ‘Everything You Wanted (Fred Falke remix)’

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – ‘Heads Will Roll (A-Trak remix)’

Robyn – ‘Indestructible (A-Trak remix)’

A bit of this, a bit of that

Scissor Sisters

Are you hungry for Night Work yet? I am. I have just discovered a website, where you can listen to the full album versions of ‘Invisible Light’ and first single ‘Fire with Fire’ and a couple of remixes for each of them.

For ‘Fire with Fire’ click here, for ‘Invisible Light’ click here.

I can feel that ‘Fire with Fire’ will be one of my summer anthems, so I bet there’s gonna be a post about it in the right time… For now, have a listen of great remix of ‘Invisible Light’ by Stuart Price:

Kylie Minogue

‘All the Lovers’ is out there for some time now, but here is something even better: an extended mix by DirtyHands. Another summer anthem and another track produced by Stuart Price. Isn’t he a genius? This piece of the song starting in 4:54 is such a killer!

If we put the aforemontioned songs together with Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’, it’s seems like we have a camp summer with a strong feel of ’90s, doesn’t it?

Tim Exile

Tim has started an affair with video blogging recently and I’m more than sure it’s worth following. In the first entry he talks about his idea for introducing (even more) interactivity, moving to London and starting a series of workshops once he’s settled down in a new studio there. I’m definitely going to one of these!

This blog made me realsie how much I miss Imogen’s vblogs… Hope she’s going t start a new ‘series’ when she’s working on a new album! Oh, and ‘making of Ellipse’ DVD will be coming out soon, by the way – Immi keeps on tweeting about it recently…

Robyn

A couple of days ago, there was a premiere of quite a nice music video for ‘Dancing On My Own’ which is quite nice itself too. But I have to say that earrings attached to the shirt is a rather risky idea to me. Directed by Max Vitali.

If you haven’t heard it yet, you have to check Fred Falke‘s remix of that song – I prefer it to the original version:

Momma’s remix

There is a contest out there for the best remix of Róisín Murphy‘s ‘Momma’s Place’ and some of them are really good. What is more, some of them are available for download!
Like this one (currently #1):

Some of them aren’t.

Dig in and enjoy!

Hercules’ love affair with Lady Gaga turns into a bad romance

Did you know that Hercules and Love Affair remixed Lady Gaga‘s ‘Bad Romance’ (ok, I know about it for a long time now, but it slipped my mind to write about it…)? Such an unexpected and thrilling collaboration. Although I expected something more ‘wow’, the minimalism of the remix turned it to be a real grower. I especially like the bit starting in 3:47.

The lesson is: Hercules is always amazing, even if you don’t think that at first.

Let’s frou away thanks to Royal Sapien

My friend told me once that what he likes the most on my blog are posts that introduce music that he wouldn’t come across on other blogs or music websites that he reads. On the other hands, he is not the fan of remixes at all. So I decided to write a post about the remix that is not well known (it’s hardly known at all) hoping that he would enjoy it at least a little.

It is a remix of Frou Frou‘s ‘Breathe In’ made by Royal Sapien this year. I like it a lot, there’s a lot of space in it. Not as much as in the original version, but how can anyone make the perfection even better… Actually, Guy Sigsworth, the master himself, expressed his favour of the remix.

Have a listen and if you like what you hear just click on the arrow pointing down on the right side of the box below (lots of directions but I’m sure you can find it anyway!) to download it for free.

And here’s the reminder of the original version of ‘Breathe In’ – I can still remember seeing it for the first time on Italian music channel DeeJay and falling for it instantly. Hm, now that I think of this – it was the only channel where I have ever seen Frou Frou video, so it must have been a really good channel. Anyway, that’s how I met my dear Imogen Heap.

Oh, it seems there’s gonna be a nice bonus to this post! I’ve just visited Royal Sapien site and a few days ago he uploaded a remix of Imogen’s ‘Tidal’ that is really good and you can upload it too. Lucky day!

White Lies + Crystal Castles = Death

White Lies + Crystal Castles

White Lies + Crystal Castles

I don’t like White Lies. I’m not a fan of Crystal Castles. But I blinkin’ love the music video for the song below, and the song – ‘Death’ – itself! Can you imagine?
The remixed video has an incredible sense of drama and mystery, and together with the Crystal Castles’ remix of White Lies’ song it creates a perfect audiovisual combination.
The original music video was directed by Andreas Nilsson and I guess he is responsible for the remixed version as well.

You can download the remix here.

Oh, and I’ve seen both bands at the Open’er Festival. But I’m gonna write a separate post about the festival.

Remixed: Fred Falke

Fred Falke

Fred Falke

Today, I introduce a new category of posts on my blog. In Remixed: … I will present amazing work of my favourite remixers.

The first one that I’m going to present is Fred Falke. Actually, I discovered him not so long ago, but I’m impressed with his work on ‘New in Town’ by Little Boots and ‘Anthonio’ by Annie. Both of them are shown further in this post.

The remixes I like the most are the ones changing the vibe/character of the song or expose elements that aren’t present in the foreground in the original version. It happened several times to me that I hadn’t liked the original of the song until I heard the remix and discovered this special something that made me change my mind.

In this case, I liked both ‘Anthonio’ and ‘New in Town’ very much from the very beginning. However, as I have already mentioned before, I am impressed how Fred Falke has changed them. Continue reading
